Le chevalier Vatenguerre est le premier héros récurrent des " Milan Poche Cadet+ ". Ce chevalier de la Table ronde, fidèle serviteur du roi Arthur et compagnon de Lancelot, sort enfin de l'oubli. Juste réparation, car les aventures de celui qu'on appelle aussi " le chevalier le plus nul de l'univers " sont absolument désopilantes. Vatenguerre est un chevalier de la Table ronde, un vrai. Mais on comprend vite, en lisant ses aventures, pourquoi la légende l'a laissé dans l'ombre. Oh certes, il ne manque pas de courage, seulement d'un peu de clairvoyance. Il a beau faire, tout ce qu'il entreprend se termine immanquablement en catastrophe. Heureusement pour lui, son fidèle écuyer Herbert, tel le Sancho Pança de Don Quichotte, est toujours là pour le tirer d'affaire ! Dans cette première aventure, Vanteguerre va venir en aide au fantôme du chevalier Hirsute -c'est son nom -, injustement accusé du vol d'une boîte de sardines ( !) quelques années plus tôt. Avec l'aide d'Herbert et du chat de Merlin l'enchanteur en personne, Vatenguerre découvrira le vrai coupable, un Arsène Lupin avant la lettre, maître dans l'art du déguisement, un collectionneur fou de boîtes de conserve. Ce résumé en témoigne : les aventures de Vatenguerre nous plongent en plein délire ! Tout cela ressemble à un mélange de non sense, Gaston Lagaffe, des Monty Python et de Mr Bean. Les illustrations originales de Frédéric Pillot collent parfaitement au délire du texte, tout en restant parfaitement lisibles.
